Hi, my name is Cayden Veland. I am the owner of Open Water Taxidermy with a specialization in waterfowl taxidermy. I grew up in Brandon, South Dakota and still reside there. I self taught myself the art from watching one YouTube video and started my career from there. Growing up, my dad was a avid waterfowl hunter and introduced me at a young age. I fell in love with the sport very quickly. My passion for waterfowl quickly grew, which sparked my interest in the doing taxidermy. Hunting waterfowl allows me to study and learn the anatomy of birds. Knowing the anatomy gives the most realistic pose a bird can make. That is the key to a quality mount.

My goal as a taxidemist is to bring back that smile on my clients face, putting them back in the moment of holding their bird for the first time. I have very high expectations for myself with producing high quality mounts. I always tell my clients, “if I wouldn’t want that mount on my wall, why would you?” I only want the best for my clients by putting 110% into every mount.
